Fortes Family Wines
is situated in Napier, Agulhas, in the most southerly area of Africa, allowing us to produce groundbreaking cool climate wines of enormous extract and quality, grown in soils of great complexity and structure.
Fortes Family Wines was started and is headed by Neil Fortes, who has over 40 years of experience in the wine trade.
Fortes means “strong” in Spanish and this also describes the strength and intensity of the wines we are creating.
The Fortes family originated in Spain and can be traced back to Queen Isabella’s time. The family made their way to Russia, where they were grain merchants in Melitopol, Ukraine. The family migrated to the US at the beginning of the 19th century and, in turn to South Africa.
